We recently asked our private Facebook group members what they would be most interested in reading about on our blog. Overwhelmingly, many individuals requested the best advice regarding traveling from Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW).
As of May 2019, there is no official shuttle from RSW to Fort Myers Beach or to our property, Lighthouse Island Resort Inn and Suites.
The good news? There are plenty of options at all price points that guests can select from to transport yourself 20 miles across Fort Myers, across the Matanzas Pass Bridge and down into the heart of our gulf side paradise.
The first option is public transportation. LeeTran provides public transportation between 7:25 a.m. and 9:25 p.m. on weekdays and 7:25 a.m. and 8:05 p.m. on Saturdays. Sunday bus service is available from 7:06 a.m. until 6:56 p.m. Please note that bus service times change seasonally. To travel to Fort Myers Beach from RSW, hop on Route 50 bus and ride until you reach the transfer station at Summerlin Square, located north of Fort Myers Beach. From Summerlin Square, board bus Route 400 and ride until you reach the Times Square stop. Our property is located steps from the bus stop. An adult fare costs $1.50.
For those who prefer private transportation, there are multiple options. Rental cars are available from the airport’s Rental Car Service Center is located on the ground level of the parking garage. Arriving passengers should proceed downstairs, exit baggage claim and walk across the street to the rental car facility. Rentals are provided by Alamo, Avis, Budget, and others.
Taxi services are also available for visitors. MBA Airport Transportation, LLC is the provider of taxi service at Southwest Florida International Airport. MBA Airport Transportation taxi rates from Southwest Florida International Airport are defined by zones, not meters. Fort Myers Beach is located in Zone 5, meaning a fee of $50 will be applied for MBA service from RSW to Fort Myers Beach. MBA Airport Transportation is available to serve all walk-up customers, with no reservations required. Customers in need of an ADA lift-equipped vehicle may make an advanced reservation, but it is not required.
Last, ride share services are available from RSW to Fort Myers Beach. Both Uber and Lyft are available for pickup at RSW. To utilize these services you will need to download the official apps and follow the instructions to hail your ride.
